It will be on view until January 6 the site-specific installation Path to the sky created by the artist Jacob Hashimoto on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition opened last May at the museum. The work will be accessible to the public as an integral part of the museum's exhibition route, before flying overseas to be exhibited at the prestigious MOMA in San Francisco.
Path to the Sky unfolds in the heart of the Corticella, a space chosen for its strong symbolic and architectural significance. The work is composed of more than 3,000 suspended kites handcrafted from Japanese paper and bamboo structures, which map out a visual and conceptual route between earth and sky.
Conceived as a tribute to the city of Siena, the installation reflects on the theme of the journey – physical, spiritual and symbolic – and sits in continuity with the history of the place, formerly a point of welcome for pilgrims and today a space open to art and contemporary reflection.
