ciclo di visite straordinarie "A porte chiuse. Dentro il Santa Maria della Scala"

"A porte chiuse. Dentro il Santa Maria della Scala" opens on Thursday, September 10th, 2026: a series of special tours promoted by the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala and the Municipality of Siena, opening to the public for the first time the roughly 18,000 square metres of the museum complex previously inaccessible. The tours are linked to the exhibition "Santa Maria della Scala. Architetture, progetti e visioni," dedicated to the new Masterplan for the restoration of spaces not yet returned to use.

The visit opens with a short introductory video by architect Luca Molinari, coordinator of the Masterplan, in the San Galgano hall. The route then continues through areas usually closed to the public, accompanied by technical staff from the Municipality and the Foundation. The itinerary, lasting one hour and fifteen minutes, passes through spaces where traces of the museum's centuries-long history as a hospital — which came to a definitive close in 1990 — are still visible, along with signs of the work begun by Guido Canali, offering previously unseen views over the Fosso di Sant'Ansano and the building's internal spaces.

After the inaugural appointment, tours will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:00 pm, throughout September and October. As with the opening, participation requires mandatory booking, in groups of up to 10 people, at a cost of €5.00 per person.
