In the Light of the Word. Photographic storytelling workshop through the lens of poetry

The task of poetry is to deliver the world to us in the light of the poet's inner gaze: "a liberation and an unfolding of the visible that is the exposition of the thing to the light of the word, to that light that the word can retain," writes Antonio Prete in the preface to Poesia e Fotografia by Yves Bonnefoy (2015). The same task belongs to photography, which cuts from reality whatever the author needs to reveal his secret vision, his mental reading of the visible: it is the miracle of light. Translating a poem into a photographic work means identifying with the private and inner world of the poet, adopting his suggestions and making visible the movements of the soul through one's own personal photographic sensibility. It means drawing inspiration from an existing work and creating a new one; it means giving life to a visual poetry.

Poetry & Photography potranno viaggiare insieme, influenzarsi reciprocamente, raccontare l’invisibile della parola e renderlo fruibile e concreto nella fotografia: un travaso creativo che ogni fotografo gestirà con il proprio linguaggio unico.

THE WORKSHOP
Participants minimum 8 max 12

Duration:
Two in-person days of 8 hours each
Three online meetings of 3 hours each

Workshop Objectives:

• To put into practice an exploration of the self triggered by the reading of a poem chosen from those proposed

• To use photography to tell the essence of the poetic composition filtered through one's own sensitivity via conscious narrative acts and a coherent, complete photographic language

• To produce a fanzine or a book, organize a final exhibition

Before making the bank transfer, it is recommended to send the registration form in order to check the availability of remaining places. The participation fee includes the text of poems chosen by the instructor on which the participant will work

The workshop benefits from FIAF certification

At the end of the workshop the issuance of Certificate of Attendance

Participants will be able to use photography in a completely free and creative way, through (as a mere example) photographs taken specifically, Found Photography, collage and photomontage, creative manipulation of images, self-portrait, staged photography and any other technique/genre functional to their personal narrative.

For the second in-person day, participants are requested (preferably) to bring a laptop in order to work on editing and sequencing images.
