On the occasion of the fifth edition of the Festival Voci Migranti, the Biblioteca e Fototeca Giuliano Briganti hosts from October 24 to 31 the work Oh Good! by the artist Moustapha Cessay, created as part of the project Le Valigie Digitali.
The installation, inspired by the song Antassalam by Maher Zain, originates from Cessay's personal journey, who found comfort in that music during his trip from Gambia to Europe: “I listened to it during the journey that took me to Italy, when everything seemed difficult, and I still listen to it today to find peace and feel good,” the artist recounts.
In the work, the artist handwrote some lines from the song, translating them into Mandinka and Italian, accompanied by an audio file that allows visitors to listen to the song through an MP3 player with headphones.
The Festival Voci Migranti, conceived by VersoLab ASP in collaboration with the Corte dei Miracoli, has been promoting artistic and narrative expressions of foreign-origin citizens since 2020, offering an open, inclusive, and participatory space. This edition’s central theme is “home” and this year extends to various locations in the city, including Santa Maria della Scala, which hosts this significant installation.
