The shelves of the Briganti Library feature the Librartis collection which includes 130 'artist’s books' crafted by many different artists around the world, above all Italian and those who are specially related to the city of Siena. The Artist’s book is made from the combination of various creative expressions, for this reason it is defined by several terms: livre de peitre or object book. The main goal of Librartis collection is to restructure the term “book” by pairing it with the artistic process and considering the book as an art object, mindful of the historical avant-garde of the twentied century, European and American artistic movements of the post-World War II. The artist's books deviate from the traditional logic of the book as a reading object; in fact, the narrative is expressed through different colors, shapes, and materials. Various aesthetic types can be distinguished, including Diary Books, Box Books, Fabric Books, and Conceptual Books.
