Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 4:30 PM, at the Sala Sant’Ansano, the presentation of the volume Fausto Melotti. In leggerezza | A tribute to Italo Calvino, curated by Michelina Eremita and published by Silvana Editoriale.
The book serves as the catalogue of the exhibition of the same name held at Santa Maria della Scala in 2023, conceived to celebrate the ideal encounter between two leading figures of 20th-century culture: Fausto Melotti (1901–1986), sculptor and poet of form, and Italo Calvino (1923–1985), one of the greatest Italian writers of the last century.
The connection between the two authors is built around shared concepts such as lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility, multiplicity, and coherence—the six values Calvino chose for his American Lectures that also describe Melotti’s artistic universe with surprising accuracy.
Two kindred visions, able to inhabit the space of abstraction with balance, rigor, and imagination.
Joining the curator will be:
Domenico Scarpa, scientific consultant of the Primo Levi Study Centre in Turin and one of the leading scholars of Calvino’s work.
Riccardo Castellana, full professor of Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Siena and author of one of the catalogue texts.
Rudi Cerri, head of the Fausto Melotti Archive
