From July 9 to September 14, 2025 the Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala Foundation presents the exhibition NoiSe><Derive by Gianluca Codeghini which opens the inauguration ceremony of the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy 2025 “Derive.”
The exhibition, curated by Stefano Jacoviello, interacts with the festival’s content and simultaneously extends its exhibition path to other locations in the city: in the rooms of the ChigianArtCafè on the ground floor of Palazzo Chigi Saracini and in the exhibition space Inner Room © – Open Zona Toselli.
NoiSe><Derive displaces a trilogy of Black/White/Pink Noise across the places of its articulation. In Chigiana, the works suggest a type of noise close to black, characterized by very low frequencies, unintelligible yet existing, which we do not always manage to hear and understand. The rooms of the former Refectory and the spaces of the warehouses in the Corticella of Santa Maria della Scala, instead, are inhabited by white noise, a metaphorical condensate that enhances the whole, the undifferentiated. The noise radiating from the heart of Inner Room is pink, produced by a constant visual, physical, and mental stimulation that fosters a dialogue between sound and the human eye.
NoiSe><Derive accompanies the audience into Codeghini’s creative universe, where one is led to confront their own identity, subjectivity, belonging. In the buzz that saturates the signifier, doubt is born, a tool that simply serves to open other, less obvious paths, to the discovery of the world around us. It is a retrospective exhibition that, together with already well-known works exhibited in galleries, museum spaces, and independents in Italy and abroad, presents many works produced expressly for this occasion: drawings, audio montages, video productions, installations.
NoiSe><Derive is an exhibition realized by the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in co-production with the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex and in collaboration with Inner Room. Thanks to the contribution of this last Sienese entity engaged in the promotion of contemporary art, the exhibition also benefits from a sound appendix featured in the summer programming of CHIGIANARadioarte (radioarte.it).
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog curated by Stefano Jacoviello, published by the Sillabe publishing house, Livorno.
