The Santa Maria della Scala participates in the FORMA project – Training for Accessible Museums

The MTA Tuscan Museums for Alzheimer System, through the lead organization L’immaginario Associazione Culturale, responsible for the procedure, promotes the call ForMA – Training for Accessible Museums – which offers 5 newly graduated young people an integrated training and paid internship program, focused on cultural welfare and aimed at implementing strategic skills to make museums accessible. The notice is funded with resources from PR FSE + Tuscany 2021/27 and falls under Giovanisì (www.giovanisi.it), the Tuscany Region project for youth autonomy. The activity is part of the Tuscany Region's experimental project “Young professionals grow in museums”, aimed at Supporting transitions to stable and quality employment in cultural heritage and contemporary art, funded with the support of the European Union (European Social Fund).
The 5 non-curricular internships aim to promote the employability growth of young people under 30 within the institutional activities of museum Systems and to facilitate professional choices through direct knowledge of the world of work as a formative, orientation or professionalizing experience and do not constitute an employment relationship. The project offers one month of non-formal theoretical training (100 hours) and one year of internship with practical experiential training in the field of cultural welfare (600 + 600 hours) with an average of 25 hours per week of activity for a gross compensation of 800 euros (350 euros gross for the first month of theoretical training).

The host museums are part of the MTA Tuscan Museums for Alzheimer System:

  • University Center - Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa

  • Civic Archaeological Museum of Camaiore

  • Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex, Siena

  • Pistoia Musei Foundation, Pistoia

  • Empoli Glass Museum

Who can participate
People who intend to direct their professional path towards museum accessibility and who possess the following mandatory minimum requirements may participate in the selection:

  • not having reached the age of 30 by the deadline of this notice;

  • be unemployed, jobless, inactive and, at the deadline of this notice, not be engaged in a course of study and/or training;

  • hold a master's degree/specialist degree obtained from an Italian University no more than 24 months before the internship activation date (18/03/2026);

  • hold one of the following diplomas/master's degrees: LM-89 Art History; LM-11 Sciences for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage; LM-2 Archaeology; LM-60 Natural Sciences; LM-6 Biological Sciences; LM-78 Philosophical Sciences; LM-84 Historical Sciences; LM-85 Pedagogical Sciences; LM-85 bis Primary Education Sciences; LM-57 Adult Education and Continuing Education Sciences; LM-87 Social Work (also indicated as Political Sciences and Social Services or similar); LM-88 Sociology; DASL 10 Art Education.

  • have an interest in directing their professional path towards museum accessibility;

  • for non-Italian participants a minimum C1 level of Italian language knowledge is required, verified through self-certification and confirmed during the selection interview, as well as a valid residence permit for the duration of the internship;

  • non-Italian citizens who meet the above criteria but hold a master-degree issued by a non-Italian University must demonstrate that such a degree is recognized and homologated in Italy as equivalent to one of the admitted master's degrees.

  • not having criminal convictions, not having pending criminal proceedings and not having been disqualified or subjected to measures that, according to current laws, exclude appointment to positions in public administrations.

How to apply
The application for admission to the selection (i.e. the candidacy) must be submitted to the MTA Tuscan Museums for Alzheimer System by February 20, 2026 via this link: https://www.museitoscanialzheimer.org/evento/formazione-per-musei-accessibili/

The application must be accompanied by

  • a copy of a valid identity document;

  • training curriculum, duly dated and signed, showing: the academic qualifications obtained, the training courses attended, the training experiences carried out and the aptitudes on the basis of which the internship application is submitted

  • motivational letter


The training course
The 5 selected interns will follow 104 hours of non-formal theoretical training that will take place at the Empoli Glass Museum. Each intern will be assigned to a host museum based on their field of study and taking into account the preference indications expressed in the application. During the practical/experiential internship period, lasting 600 + 600 hours over 12 months, each intern will carry out their project at the museum to which they are assigned. Each intern will be trained on the general characteristics of the host museum's organization and collections; on the target audience and the host museum's cultural and educational offer; on innovative communication strategies and on methodologies for evaluating the social impact of cultural programs. In addition, they will be supported in developing skills to collaborate with multiprofessional teams, facilitate in-person relationships between the public and the museum, design inclusive tools and pathways tailored to different types of audiences, involve vulnerable audiences in the design of inclusive activities, communicate the museum's inclusive programs and initiatives on social channels and the web, design evaluation tools, analyze data and report results. Each intern will develop a personalized cultural welfare project based on the characteristics and needs of the host museum and their own aptitudes. The practical-experiential internship activities will be defined by the host museum in collaboration with the participant.


Who funds it
The ForMA Training for Accessible Museums project obtained regional funding as per Decree no.20036 of 16-09-2025. The Notice is funded with resources from PR FSE+ Tuscany 2021/27 and falls within Giovanisì (www.giovanisi.it), the Tuscany Region project for youth autonomy.
