Treasure of Chianti

29 May 2021 - 03 September 2021

curated by Nancy de Grummond

Silver Coinage of the Roman Republic from Cetamura del Chianti

In the Summer of 2015 a small globulare vase, with a flat bottom was discovered in Cetamura (Gaiole in Chianti): 194 roman silver coins, denarii and quinarii, that were produced between169 and 27 BCE at various mints in Mediterrean, were found inside the vessel. Restored by Nora Marosi (Studio Arts College International) in the laboratories of Santa Maria della Scala, the coins are now exhibited and contextualized in the Roman Republican phase of Cetamura del Chianti and of the sourrounding Chianti.

Promoted by the Florida State University, the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per le province di Siena, Grosseto ed Arezzo and the Comune di Siena, in collaboration with Studio Arts College International and Friends of Florence.
