Santa Maria della Scala 27.02.2010 - 06.06.2010
Adalberto Mecarelli
curated by Marco Pierini
Exactly one year far from the spectacular installation by Jenny Holzer, Adalberto Mecarelli uses the façade of the ancient hospital for designing an artwork with the light.
In this case, however, the protagonists won’t be the words, but the shapes created by light.
Highlighting some architectural details and, conversely, obscuring others, Mecarelli repaints the front of Santa Maria della Scala, which overlooks Piazza Duomo.
In addition, the artist has designed a huge series of works of light for the Archaeological Museum spaces, beams of light that draw sculptural shapes on walls and vaults, underline or transfigure elements of the architecture.
The light works sometimes interact with the artworks exhibited, in some cases helping with the comprehension, in others suggesting an unusual reading.
The exhibition consists entirely of new works conceived and produced specifically for the spaces of Santa Maria della Scala.
Adalberto Mecarelli (Terni, 1945) lives and works in Paris since the late Sixties.
